This was an incredible opportunity to film a promotional video for Adventure Island theme park. We worked with our partners and got onto site at 4:00am. Surprisingly, we were done by 11:30am having taken three drones to the site. The key here was to showcase their favourite rides, such as Axis and Rage. To do this, we had to make them look exciting so planning was key. The end result was a number of different scenes to showcase the same ride and using a variety of techniques including third and first person view.
Taking Advantage of the Scenery
Operating alongside Southend-on-Sea seafront allowed us to take advantage of the surrounding areas and bring them into picture too. Adventure Island is built on either side of the world’s longest pleasure pier so we absolutely had to include this in the footage. Not to mention, pier hill which is situated directly north of the theme park, home to hotels, restaurants, bars and Southend high street.
We operated up to 1,000 feet above surface level at times, with the approval of London Southend Airport Air Traffic Control. We also got a live mention on Radio Essex which is located at the entrance of Adventure Island. The team we worked with were absolutely brilliant and “under our control” for the duration of the filming which made the whole process even easier. Editing the video was fun too, we took about eight different drafts to make it fit to the music that created a fun, exciting and upbeat atmosphere.
